Announcing The 2023 Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia Mummers Parade

Live Casino & Hotel Philadelphia was announced today as the new Title Sponsor of the 123rd annual Mummers Parade in Philadelphia, to be presented on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

The 2023 Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia Mummers Parade will feature participants from the Fancy, Wench, Comic, and String Band divisions. In addition to these performances, the parade broadcast will include appearances from Mummers personalities, local celebrities, and sponsors.

The addition of Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia as the title sponsor has made it possible for the Mummers Parade to broadcast live on WDPN-TV (MeTV2), WFMZ.com, and the WFMZ+ app available on Firestick, Roku, Apple TV, iOS, Android devices for the first time in the parade’s history.

Also to help reduce costs associated with the production the Mummers have created a new partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, IBEW Local Union 98 who will provide technical resources and manpower to help produce our broadcast.

The key to a successful broadcast of the 2023 Live Casino & Hotel Philadelphia Mummers Parade is additional financial support. At this time, the Mummers are still seeking donations for the 2023 parade. We encourage our supporters to make a financial contribution by visiting www.donatemummers.com.

In addition, the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. As such, your donation will be tax-deductible.

Kelly’s Kidz Toy Drive

The String Band Association is once again teaming up with your favorite traffic anchor Bob Kelly and Kelly’s Kidz for a toy drive this holiday season to benefit St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children! Drop off your new and unwrapped toys at your favorite string band club house from now until Wednesday, December 8th.

You can drop off your toys at any of the locations below. If you can’t drop a toy off and would still like to donate, you can send a Venmo donation to the PMSBA @PMSBA. Include “Toy Drive” in your note if paying by Venmo. Please join the String Band Association in supporting this great cause!

2021 String Band Luau Palooza!

The officers and members of the String Band Association are happy to announce that on Saturday, June 19, 2021, the Philadelphia String Band Association will be hosting our Inaugural String Band Association Luau at the Seaport Pier located in North Wildwood, NJ.

The goal of our event will be to raise money to help the Philadelphia String Band Association Bands in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
Our Luau will feature performances by twelve String Bands. We will also have appearances by local celebrities & personalities.

Tickets cost $20 and include food and drink specials.

Martin Luther King Day

On Martin Luther King Day, millions of Americans honor Dr. King’s legacy by coming together for a national day of service. While this year looks very different, the Philadelphia String Band Association has the unique opportunity to reflect on the gains we have made, and re-commit ourselves to the work that remains as we strive for a more just society.

The String Band Association encourages all our members, fans, and supporters to bring to life Dr. King’s vision of neighbors working together to build a better future by volunteering to take direct action, learn to expand your knowledge base, donate goods or funds to benefit others, advocate to inspire others, and connect to create a beloved community.

COVID-19 Update Regarding January 1, 2021

The City of Philadelphia announced they would be taking measures to protect residents from COVID-19 by cancelling all large-scale events and social gatherings through February 2021. Due to these new restrictions implemented from the city, this has resulted in the cancellation of the 2021 Philadelphia Mummers Parade as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in our area.

 

The Philadelphia String Band Association has worked alongside local officials and leaders from all divisions of the parade to fully support the City of Philadelphia’s decision to cancel the 2021 parade in an effort to keep both our participants and spectators safe.

 

Though we are disheartened by these developments, the String Band Association does not think it would be prudent to have their members and tens of thousands of spectators participate in a parade or any gatherings leading up to or on New Year’s Day in the City of Philadelphia during this pandemic.

 

The Philadelphia String Band Association, leaders from the other parade divisions and the City of Philadelphia will continue to work together to bring the sights and sounds of the New Year’s Day Parade to Broad Street once it is safe for large gatherings. Our television partner PHL17 is producing a New Year’s Day showcase of past parades that will air on New Year’s Day (Friday 1/1/2021 9 a.m.) for our fans.

 

During these unprecedented times, the Philadelphia String Band Association is hoping that everyone continues to stay healthy and safe.

2020 String Band Association Telethon

The officers and members of the String Band Association are happy to announce our Inaugural String Band Association Telethon at the Mummers Museum taking place on November 14th, 2020 from 4pm to 10pm.  Our telethon will be televised on our Facebook and YouTube pages for over six hours with our goal being to raise money to continue to provide an atmosphere that promotes integrity, camaraderie, strong family values, community, inclusion, and pride.

 

Our telethon will feature participants with a variety of talents including singing, dancing, comedy, and a variety of other forms of entertainment. We will also have performances by the String Bands in addition to local celebrities & personalities.

COVID-19 Causes Cancellation of the upcoming 2021 New Year’s Day Parade

On July 14, 2020 the City of Philadelphia and Mayor James F. Kenney announced they would be taking measures to protect residents from COVID-19 by canceling all large-scale events and social gatherings through February 2021. Due to these new restrictions implemented from the city, this will result in the cancellation of the 2021 Philadelphia Mummers Parade as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in our area. The parade, which was set to take place on January 1, 2021 and pass through Center City Philadelphia, was to be the 120th year of the longest-running parade in Philadelphia. The last time the parade was not hosted by the City of Philadelphia was in 1934 due to the Great Depression. In previous years, the parade has attracted over 200,000 spectators and participants.

 

The Philadelphia String Band Association had worked alongside local officials on plans to put on a parade in 2021 that would be safe to attend, but the rising cases, hospitalizations and the city’s new orders for outside gatherings has prompted the city to cancel this year’s parade. The Philadelphia String Band Association fully supports the City of Philadelphia’s decision to cancel the 2021 parade in an effort to keep both our participants and spectators safe.

 

Though we are disheartened by these developments, the String Band Association does not think it would be prudent to invite tens of thousands of people to Center City, Philadelphia during this pandemic. While we will miss performing for our fans and residents of Philadelphia, the String Band Association does not want to contribute to the spike in cases in any way.

 

The Philadelphia String Band Association and the City of Philadelphia will continue to work together to bring the sights and sounds of the String Bands to Broad Street once it is safe for large gatherings and at that time we will still honor our essential workers. The String Band Association is also working with our television partner PHL17 to ensure there will be a String Band showcase that will air on New Year’s Day for our fans.

 

We will continue to provide updates as they become available. During these unprecedented times, the Philadelphia String Band Association is hoping that everyone continues to stay healthy and safe.
